John A. Wilkinson, local attorney, and historian was an avid supporter of the genealogy and history collections of Brown Library. The John A. Wilkinson Room in the library serves as the collection site for many of his and others donations of documents and books. The History Room contains material for Beaufort County and surrounding area local history and genealogical research. Sources include microfilm of Beaufort County court and other records, county abstracts, local newspapers, indexed obituary and cemetery records also artifacts, books and papers from the office of George H. Brown, the judge for whom the library is named. The room also hosts a collection of historic documents and papers of the day to day lives and businesses of many prominent Washington citizens.
